White Papers
A white paper has several uses: to introduce the technology of a new product; to describe the complexities of integrating a technology, to outline a seminar topic; and to contribute knowledge within a technical community. Unlike a published article, it is not solely technical. A white paper is expected to contain a certain amount of reference to a product or service.
In this capacity, a white paper must contain enough technical information to provide insight and knowledgeable content without sounding like a commercial pitch. While the specific aim of a white paper is to teach the reader something new about a product, a secondary goal is to increase product salest.
White papers not only require product knowledge, but know-how in the theories and market space that produced the product. It is a complex mix of technical information and marketing content.
In the words of Bruce Byfield, a well-known communications expert, "A white paper is the closest that business gets to an academic paper."
Newsletters
A newsletter is a unique information format, sent directly to people who respect your expertise and look forward to the insight your publication provides. Like a newspaper, a newsletter should be sent as a regular edition or issue. It must contain more than one story or column and can include news about the company's product and services.
It is a great marketing strategy used to associate your name with expertise in your field.
