Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

If any document can directly affect your bottom line, it is the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). An SOP is a valuable tool that is used to help direct repeatable processes so that they are performed in a consitent manner. Any company procedure should be documented and many processes require documentation for compliance with regulations. An SOP can be used to standardize any procedure, such as quality assurance, shipping procedures, packaging processes, project life cycles, health and safety, etc. These are the types of procedures required for ISO registration.

Other Procedures

Production procedures are a further benefit of documentation. These procedures ensure high quality, reproducible products from shift to shift and day to day. Using a production procedure allows any technician to build the same product, to the same specification, reduce variation in the final product, minimize the cost of testing, and increase product reliability. These procedures are like a recipe used to create your products and verify the quality at the same time. They are themselves are a product of your company and have value if the company is to be sold or trade shares publically.
